Obituary for Gertrude Mary "Gert" Johnson

Gertrude Mary (Kane) Johnson, 88, of West Suffield, beloved wife of Carl ‘Rusty’ Johnson for over 52 years passed away on April 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Holyoke, MA on September 3, 1929 she was raised by her Irish Catholic mother, Theresa Walsh Kane.

Gert graduated from Mercy School of Nursing and was a practicing Registered Nurse for many years. She worked as a private duty nurse, an E.R. Nurse, and thoroughly enjoyed her time with the Mount Marie Sisters of St. Joseph residential and infirmary care. She was the perfect combination of tough and sweet.
She was an extremely artistic woman who was an Eastern States award winning Quilter, and was just as talented as an artistic painter. She was Chairman of the Second Chance Shop: Village for Children and Families in Suffield and enjoyed running the fundraisers and bag sales.

She is survived by her loving husband Carl ‘Rusty’ Johnson of West Suffield, a son Carl Jr. ‘CR’ Johnson and his wife Diann of West Suffield, and a daughter Mary-Beth Moreau of Southwick; two grandsons Matthew Thomas Moreau, and Spencer Axel Johnson; one sister Gene Giammarino of Agawam; and a brother Bill Kane of East Longmeadow; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, on Saturday, May 5, at 5:00PM at with calling hours from 3:00-5:00PM prior to the funeral service.
